Though videogame adaptations usually disappoint, this franchise certainly has overcome the usual flaws by casting well and delivering highly stylized action and loads of well-placed gore. Critics may have hated Resident Evil and Resident Evil: Apocalypse, but they grossed over $235 million worldwide. Buzz for a third movie started right away after the second movie, a fact studio executives picked up in anticipation of a another potboiler sequel. Besides that fact, everybody knows good movies never come in twos – they always need a third one to round it all off. The movies certainly have a huge mythology from which to build off of, as the Resident Evil series has tons of multi-platform games and lots of extra content in the form of comics, graphic novels and novels.
